SCLC posted 5/15/2018
REMINDER - COACHES KICKOFF MEETING IS TOMORROW MONDAY JUNE 4TH @ 6:00 P.M. ALL COACHES SHOULD ATTEND AND PICKUP THEIR GEAR. THANKS.
SCLC 2018 Boys Coaching Staff,
Thanks to each of you for your commitment to the development of our young men this Summer.
This message is going to be long but is filled with basic information you will need to execute on our Club’s goals in 2018. Please save this message and refer to it often.
1 = Coaches Kickoff Meeting – Monday, June 4th @ 6:00 p.m. Halderman
Club Directors Lemieux & Cugini have requested a kickoff meeting for ALL head and assistant coaches. If you are getting this message your attendance is required. Team practice gear (bags, balls, cones, creases, etc.) will also be handed out.
If you cannot attend, please RSVP to Tom Lemieux and or John Cugini to cover off on key messages being delivered in this meeting.
2 = Club Mission Statement & Summer Travel Program Guidelines
An understanding of our Club Mission Statement and a description of our Summer Program is critical. Please take a moment to read it online @
3 = General Events Calendar
Events of a general nature, applicable to all Club members, are shown @
Event highlights, which you may want to include on your personal calendar, include:
o >21 Parent/Board/Coaches Social, Dukes Tavern - Saturday, June 9, 2018 @ 8 p.m.
o Season Wrap Up Party – Sunday, August 5, 2018 @ ~2 p.m.
It’s important to note that our Boys Program goes dark between Friday, June 29th and Wednesday, July 4th, NO practices or events may be held during this time.
4 = Team Rosters and Team Schedules
All 5 teams are set at this point with full rosters and schedule detailed online, including:
i) U9 Developmental (non tournament participating), ii> Grades 3/2/1 (2027/2028), iii> Grade 4 (2026), iv) Grade 6/5 (2024/2025) and v> Grade 7/6 (2023/2024).
Developmental type (non tournament participating) players are assigned to each team, are denoted as "developmental" status in your roster online, regularly practice with your team but do NOT attend tournaments.
NOTE – We are working to organize Scrimmage(s) for U9 Developmental only, in lieu of a regularly scheduled practice(s), with West Chester Elevated Lacrosse Club. As all scrimmages require travel, pay close attention to your team’s schedule.
5 = Tournaments
All teams, except U9D, are registered and paid to attend each of 3 tournaments; i) The Meltdown, ii) Boys Summer Slam & iii) The Patriot Games Summer Showcase...........with exception of Grade 3/2/1 (2027/2028) that will attend the NXT Cup in lieu of Patriot Games.
Each tournament spans 2x days; Saturday & Sunday. Exact dates are listed in the Team & General Event Calendars online.
General Tournament NOTE - We will centrally administer individual player registration with each tournament and so you, as a coach, are NOT responsible for doing so.
6 = Emergency Contacts & Team Messaging
Each Head Coach and his staff will receive a separate email providing complete contact information for all assigned players (regular and developmental status). Head Coaches should keep a copy of contact information on hand in the event of an emergency.
Below are links for simple instructions on how each Head Coach (or his designee) can use the Club website (from PC, tablet or phone) to communicate directly with your team through the season. We expect frequent (at least weekly) email communication from each Head Coach to players and parents.
7 = Coaches Feedback on Players
We believe it will be important to share constructive feedback with players and parents alike. We want to convey a sense of continuous improvement and set expectations for development areas so players come back to us (in the Fall, next Summer, in the High School, etc.) better than they leave us in July 2018. Please feel free to share feedback informally.
If you can find time to give more structured feedback, the SCLC Board has creating a Player Evaluation Form that each player (regular and developmental) could receive directly from the Head Coach. This form/template is available in Excel and PDF format online @
8 = Coaches Payroll & Tax Withholding
We expect to process coach’s payroll by check on 2 or 3 separate dates; each TBD. Checks will be handed out at practice or delivered to Director Lemieux for pickup. Questions about your individual salary situation should be directed to Coach Lemieux.
NO income taxes will be withheld from your pay and so it remains each coaches responsibility to reserve funds to satisfy personal Federal and State income tax liabilities. Salaried coaches who are paid $600 or more in calendar 2018 will be issued a Form 1099-Misc in the Winter of 2018 to enable you to declare your income when filing your personal income tax returns.
9 = US Lacrosse Membership
All SCLC members, including all coaches, must be valid US Lacrosse members throughout the duration of our program to participate in practices or games. We urge you to check your status and, if inactive, to renew your membership ASAP.
To check your US Lacrosse membership status and/or renew your US Lacrosse membership see https://usl.ebiz.uapps.net/personifyebusiness/MemberSearch.aspx.
Annual US Lacrosse membership fees up to $50 are reimbursable to you through your first paycheck IF you submit a request with proof of paid membership to
US Lacrosse membership protects our Club and so we greatly appreciate your attention to this matter.
10 = Coaches Corner - YOUR Online Resource
SCLC maintains a private web page called "Coaches Corner" where you can refer to all historical coaches-only messaging, instead of digging through old emails. It can be found under the "Home" tab on the horizontal menu bar. Here is the quick: link: https://leagueathletics.com/HeyCoach.asp?n=134264&org=springfieldlacrosseclub.com The Passcode to access Coaches Corner content is "SCLCCoach."
11 = Code of Conduct & Ethics
SCLC expects all its members, directors and coaches to adhere to the US Lacrosse Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics. Club messaging will be designed to reinforce and educate these expectations. These guidelines can be found at:
Anyone with questions or concerns or those who encounter challenging situations with players, officials or parents are encouraged to contact Club Director Lemieux, Assistant Club Director Cugini or any SCLC Director.
Anonymous feedback can be submitted at any time at
We understand this is a lot to absorb at once and so we encourage you to save this message and refer to it often. Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact
at any time.
Looking forward to an exciting season ahead!
